Also known as Flying High in Australia, Airplane! still stands as the best spoof comedy film of all time, taking aim at the 1957 aeroplane disaster movie Zero Hour!, while taking on all matter of pop and social culture of the time.
The film stars Robert Hays as Ted Striker, an ex-military pilot who suffers from PTSD and a severe case of a broken heart, which he tries to remedy by boarding the flight on his air-stewardess ex-girlfriend Elaine (Julie Hagerty). When the planes crew and passengers are struck with food poisoning, it is up to Ted to save the day.
Directed and written by spoof-comedy masters Jim Abrahams and David and Jerry Zucker, Airplane! blends sharp wit, gut-busting physical comedy, and a love for being silly into a riotous and fearless comedy that works even better in todays PC times.
