The last few years has seen a wave of feature films and documentaries based on the grizzly crimes of serial killer Ted Bundy, yet No Man of God is the best of the lot by a far margin.
Directed by Amber Sealey (How to Cheat) and scripted by C. Robert Cargill (under the pseudonym Kit Lester), No Man of God focuses on the complicated relationship between Bundy and FBI profiler Bill Hagmaier during Bundy’s last years on death row.
Luke Kirby is terrific as Bundy, straddling that line between charming and creepy and evoking a palpable sense of danger. Wood complies with his turn as a good man whose inquisitive nature draws further into the mind of evil incarnate.
Sealey delivers a film heavy and intimate, dealing a film heavy and intimate, dealing with themes such as faith, the exploitative nature of the media, and the duality of man. It all results in a superbly performed and crafted serial killer movie that is thankfully void of exploitation.
