WHO SHOULD PLAY THE CROW? |

The Hollywood remake factory is in the process of redoing another perfectly fine property.
This time it is cult goth classic The Crow, the 1994 film directed by Alex Proyas and starring Brandon Lee as dead rocker turned avenging angel Eric Draven, in what would tragically be Lee’s last role.
With Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later...) set to direct, The Crow remake seemed to be heading in the right direction until the news broke that the likes of Mark Wahlberg, Channing Tatum and Bradley Cooper had all been offered the role of Draven at one point or another.
Here are Matt’s Movie Reviews picks for which actors are much better suited to star in The Crow.
Enjoy!
|
TAYLOR KITSCH |
The Friday Night Lights actor is making his movie as an action star, with his appearance as Gambit in X-Men Origins: Wolverine soon to be followed with leading turns in Battleship and John Carter. With his rock ‘n’ roll looks and star on the rise, Kitsch could make for a convincing Eric Draven.
|
LUKE EVANS |
Haven’t heard of Luke Evans? After the release of the forthcoming Three Musketeers and The Hobbit prequels, that is sure to change. Packed with movie star quality and the acting chops to boot (he is a trained theatre actor), Evans has the visual and emotive qualities needed to give The Crow its dramatic depth.
|
JARED LETO |
Currently putting his acting career on hold to live the rock ‘n’ roll life, Jared Leto’s return to the screen as a hard rock singer turned vengeful spirit would be perfectly suited. Whether Leto would want to take a break from his band “30 Seconds to Mars” is not known, but if it is movie stardom he still carves then The Crow is the film for him.
|
XAVIER SAMUEL |
Some have (frighteningly) pointed to Robert Pattinson as a potential candidate for The Crow, but it is one time Twilight alumni Xavier Samuel who would be more suited to the role if his turn in The Loved Onesis any indication. Of course, this would be based on the premise if Fresnodillo is looking for an unknown, which in this case would suit Samuel perfectly.
|
BEN BARNES |
As the star of The Chronicles of Narnia and Dorian Gray, Ben Barnes has proven himself capable of headlining a mainstream picture. With the long locks he can play a convincing rocker, and Dorian Gray has proven going to the dark side is not a problem for Barnes.
|
CHARLIE HUNNAM |
Lead actor in the popular TV series Sons of Anarchy, British born Charlie Hunnam has also had his fair share of film work appearing in Cold Mountain, Green Street Hooligans and The Ledge. What is need in his career is a leading mainstream film role deserving of his talents, with The Crow a perfect fit.
|
JOSEPH GORDON-LEVITT |
The former 3rd Rock from the Sun actor has seen his career in a constant ascent for a while now, yet it hasn’t reached the peak which The Crow could give him. Although known more for comedy, Gordon-Levitt’s roles in The Lookout and Inception should convince anyone that he would be an Eric Draven to remember.
