It’s a damn shame that Sean Bobbit;s exceptional work in 12 Years a Slave was ignored by the Academy.
Regardless, his photography of Solomon Northup’s stunning tale of survival is one of stunning clarity, never wavering from the dehumanising violence, the natural beauty of the Louisiana landscapes that play background to it and the emotional duress – both external and internal – of actor Chiwetel Ejiofor’s face as he witnesses the horrors before him.
An uncompromising vision to an uncompromising story.
