Dear readers of Matt’s Movie Reviews,
What can I say? It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything of merit on this website. The truth is I’ve reached a point in my life where attending media screenings, writing reviews, posting trailers, creating Top Ten lists etc. has fallen to the bottom of my priority list.
It’s not that I no longer love watching and writing about movies anymore. Far from it. Yet I can no longer put in the same effort that I used to. Not when I have a full time job that drains me physically and creatively, and definitely not when the responsibility of fatherhood far outweighs any movie review. Time with my family is precious, and I don’t intend on wasting it sitting in front of a computer.
So with that in mind, I must sadly inform you all that Matt’s Movie Reviews is on indefinite hiatus, at least until I can comfortably reassume my work with the same tenacity and quality that made this website the moderate success that it has become.
I truly wish this was not so. Ever since I decided to pursue a career as a film critic some 7 years ago, my main goals were to work full time as a film critic for a reputable publication and to create a website where I could espouse my opinions on all things cinema.
I can proudly say I gave it a good go. I’ve been published in many publications, interviewed some wonderfully talented and down to earth actors and filmmakers, and watched many great (and not so great) movies.
Most of all I’ve met some wonderful people over the years: editors, publicists and fellow critics/bloggers alike who share the same enthusiasm and passion for this crazy industry.
Sadly I cannot continue for the time being. Freelance work is way too much of a grind (and pays way too little) and website work has become too much hassle and not enough gain.
So while I do bid farewell, this is not a goodbye. I’ll still be here tinkering on the ol’ website (making sure all of those thousands of pages are consistent in design and tone), my long overdue best of 2012 is slowly coming together, and once in a while I just might be compelled to add a new review.
Until that time I thank you all for your support. It's meant a great deal to me.
God bless,
Matthew Pejkovic
