There is hope that M. Night Shyamalan will find his mojo again and make the kind of films that made him a big name in the first place. After Earth is not that film.
Shyamalan (who is basically a gun for hire here) reworked Gary Whitta’s original script, with the results a meandering sci-fi adventure that plods from one sequence to another, while unable to create engrossing characters who struggle to find their way through an exposition filled plot that in itself holds no interest.
A case of too many elements and not enough spacing, After Earth is bloated genre writing at its worst.
