When dialogue is a non-factor in a movie, the weight of responsibility placed upon the sound team is enormous, especially in a film like All is Lost, J.C. Chandor’s exceptional portrait of a resourceful sailor (Robert Redford) lost in the Indian Ocean in his banged up sail boat.
As immersive a cinematic experience as they come, it’s the sound effects that absorbs the viewer into this battle of man vs nature, as the vessel that carries Redford’s unnamed sailor is torn apart - crack by crack, creek by creek – by the overwhelming power of mother nature.
