Don’t be fooled: effectively blending comedy and drama is no easy task. Yet Sam Rockwell does just that and does it brilliantly in The Way Way Back.
With an excellent screenplay as his guide, Rockwell uses that charismatic charm and key comedic timing of his to deliver a scene stealing (yet never over the top) performance as an immature water park owner, who plays big brother to a looked down upon teen.
Like the bastard child of Bill Murray and John Cazale, Rockwell’s turn in The Way Way Back is perhaps the best in a rather exceptional career for this great character actor.
